The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web. – Pablo Picasso
I was driven to start Art Tribe from a deep-felt passion for art-making with children, but also from a long-held belief in the value and power of the visual arts in primary education. By engaging in a piece of art, a child can practise thinking creatively, develop their fine motor skills, gain self confidence, interpret visual information and base choices on their interpretation. They can learn to focus and persevere, to collaborate with others, to make mistakes, learn from them, accept them, fix them.
At Art Tribe, children will have the opportunity to learn new techniques and build on existing skills such as painting, drawing, model-making, collage and printing. We will explore the traditional elements of Art – line, shape, colour, form, texture, pattern and composition. Children can build up their knowledge of artists from around the world, both past and present, using their works and methods as inspiration for their own artwork.
I really hope that the children at Art Tribe will enjoy the variety of processes involved in different lessons, take pride in their completed pieces and, above all, have great fun here! I can’t wait to welcome them on their creative journey.
